DeVries Lumber Co. is getting new owners, as Lyle Hippen is retiring after a nearly 60-year career at the local lumberyard. Lyle started at what was then Buffalo Center Lumber in 1966, and he became sole owner of DeVries Lumber in 1997. Now that he’s decided to retire, Lyle and his wife, Sharon, are happy to announce the sale of the business to father and son Dan and Kevin Hassebroek. Lyle, at right, is pictured with Kevin, who will take over the operation of the business. An open house is planned for Monday, April 7 to celebrate Lyle’s retirement and to welcome the Hassebroeks.
