Bennett Gordon Quamme, age 75 of Rake, died on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Hickory Hills Campground near Albert Lea, MN. A private family memorial service was held on Friday, Aug. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake. Inurnment was held following the service at West Cemetery in Rake. The memorial service was live streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services’ Facebook page.

Bennett was born March 14, 1945 in Buffalo Center, the son of Gordon and Leona (Fjetland) Quamme. He attended Elmore School District until he was a freshman in high school. He transferred to Rake High School, where he graduated in 1963. Throughout high school he was a great athlete. He played football and baseball.

Bennett began farming in high school and continued to farm until his retirement. Early on, he kept extra busy by driving school bus for several years.

On Sept. 18, 1965, he was united into marriage to Julie Engelby, his high school sweetheart, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake. Together they were blessed with three daughters.

Bennett was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. He served on many church board positions throughout the years. He loved to travel any chance he could. He especially loved spending time with his family, and never missed a school activity. Bennett also loved to fix things or tinker with anything he could get his hands on and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

In Bennett’s younger years, he always wanted a Corvette. Eighteen years ago, he was finally able to purchase one. He and Julie belonged to the North Iowa Corvette Club and made many friends along the way.

Bennett enjoyed a few summer weekends at Hickory Hills Campground near Albert Lea, MN.

He is survived by his wife, Julie of Rake; children: Amy (Joe) Olinger of Mankato, MN, Kathy (Mike) Kemming of Waverly, Marcia (Darren) Corson of Cedar Falls; nephew, Lucas (Michele) Quamme of Eldorado Springs, MI; grandchildren: Derek (Ashley) Olinger, Sarah (special friend, Marc Stowell) Olinger, Kaylee Kemming, Chris Kemming, Brady Corson, Cameron Corson, Sydney Corson; one great-grandchild, Lee Olinger; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Christie (Dave) Olinger of Mankato; and many cousins and close friends.

Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; and a brother Tim Quamme.
