Rosena (Rosie) Nerdig
Rosena (Rosie) Boehm Nerdig, age 90, of Buffalo Center, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at MercyOne-North Iowa Medical Center. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at The First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. Greeting with family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, following the service.
Rosena (Rosie) May Etta (Boehm) Nerdig was born on May 21, 1931 in Kossuth County, the daughter of William Boehm and Gertie (Janssen) Boehm. She was baptized on September 6, 1931 and confirmed on April 4, 1946 both at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. She attended school in Lakota and Buffalo Center and then attended La ‘James Beauty School in Mason City. After beauty school, she was the owner and operator of Rosie’s Beauty Shop in Rake. On April 3, 1954, Rosie married Harvey Nerdig at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union three children were born: Debra, Kathleen and Gary.
Rosie was a member of the Ellis Point Methodist Church, rural Winnebago County, and later transferred her membership on November 19, 1957 to the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. She was a member of the church’s Golden Club for 64 years of confirmed membership. Rosie taught Bible School and Sunday School for many years enjoying the “little ones”.
Rosie and Harvey farmed for many years in the Buffalo Center and Rake area. They moved to their home in Buffalo Center in 1979.
Rosie had seasonal jobs working at the Bricelyn Canning Factory and Green Giant in Blue Earth during the sweet corn seasons. Also, she worked at the Elmore Nursery during November and December making Christmas wreaths. She also served meals at the sale barn in Buffalo Center, DeVries Auction.
Rosie enjoyed her garden yearly. She was able to have a garden this past summer. This year she had a smaller garden, but still plenty of radishes, tomatoes and green beans for the neighbors. Rosie also enjoyed crocheting; making afghans for family on special occasions.
Rosie is survived by her children, Debra (Vern) Honken, Kathleen Faber (friend – Dan McColloch), all of Forest City, and Gary (Joyce) Nerdig, Orange Beach, AL; grandchildren, Scott (Mindi) Honken, Joshua Faber, Jeffrey Ellis (Jenn Garza), Kristi Nerdig (Jack Hall), Jill (Tim) Zeimann, Andrew (Karla) Faber, and Annette (Tyler) Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Gavin, Alaina and Corinna Honken, Weston Pilgrim and Kace Faber, Skyler Ellis, and Teresa Ellis. Also surviving are her brother, Robert (Gracile) Boehm; half-sister, Carole Jo Schmidt; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Boehm, Joan Boehm, and Sharon Nerdig; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Fred, Otto, Carl, George, Johnny and Dennis; sisters, Pauline Eisenhauer and Irene Winter; and several nieces and nephews.
