Norris “Norrie” Anderson

Norris Kenneth (Norrie) Anderson, age 82 of Thompson, died on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN with his family by his side. A funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 183 2nd Ave. E. in Thompson, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation was from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Schott Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson.

Norrie was born December 21, 1940, in Forest City. He was the youngest child of Walter and Stella (Holtan) Anderson. He was baptized on February 23, 1941 and confirmed in 1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Norrie attended Thompson Community School and graduated in 1959. He excelled in baseball and basketball. He even played at the State Baseball Tournament in 1959 for the Thompson Cubs.

On August 27, 1966, he was united in marriage to Betty Haugen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Diana Marie and Nancy Kay.

Norrie lived in the Thompson area all of his life, where he farmed until his retirement in 2015 at the age of 75. He loved to farm with his John Deere equipment. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with the help from his German Short-Hair Pointers. Norrie also enjoyed many fishing trips with his family. He was well known for his baking of kringla, donuts, lefse, and apple pies.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty; daughters, Diana Myers of Suwanee, GA, and Nancy (Dave) Moklestad of Forest City. Three grandchildren: Megan Moklestad of Thompson, Alexis Myers of Flowery Branch, GA, and Nicholas Myers of Atlanta, GA. Two brothers: Dean Anderson of Mason City and Donald (Donna) Anderson of Thompson. Three brothers-in-law: Russell (Colleen) Haugen of Thompson, Donald (Liv) Haugen of Bergen, Norway, and Ole Haugen of San Clemente, CA; and sister-in-law, Deb Haugen of Garner. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Norrie was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Stella (Holtan) Anderson; sister Delores Anderson; brother and sister-in-law Marlin and Ellen Anderson; sister-in-law June Anderson; father and mother-in-law Ole and Elizabeth (Gjertson) Haugen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bernice Haugen, Buddy Haugen, Gerdis Haugen, John Haugen, Gloria Haugen, Elliot Haugen, and Alice and Gunther Walkusch.
