John Jacobs

John Mathew Jacobs, age 55 of Thompson, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at his home. A memorial service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of the urn will follow the service at Rosehill Cemetery in Thompson.

John was born on July 29, 1969 to Ronald and Joann (Gjerstad) Jacobs in Buffalo Center. John was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1988. After high school, John graduated from the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, where he studied radio broadcasting. John had a passion for broadcasting and had a long career. He worked at radio stations in Oskaloosa, Fort Dodge and most recently at KIOW Radio in Forest City.
John was loved by his family. He had a close relationship with his parents. He moved home to be with them during their final years. He also had a very close relationship with his nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them, whenever he could. John was a big sports fan. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a fan of comedy movies and TV shows and always enjoyed quoting the funniest lines. John was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He volunteered his time setting up and running the sound system on Sundays.
John is survived by his nieces, Erin (Jared) Cross of Clarion, Emily (Frank) Anderson of Marion and nephew Andrew Jacobs of Crystal, MN; great nieces and nephews Sidney Cross of Sioux City, Brenna (Coltn) O’Donnell of Forest City (and a baby girl on the way!), Aidan Cross of Clarion, and Grace, Owen and Oliver Anderson of Marion. John is also survived by cousins and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Joann; brothers, Scott and David; nephew, Tyler Jacobs; his grandparents, James and Minnie Jacobs, and Lawrence and Myrtle Gjerstad; aunt Lois (Roger) Halvorson; and uncle, Dr. Paul Gjerstad.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson.
