Dean Boyken
Dean Boyken, age 87, of Titonka, died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Titonka Care Center. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. Interment was held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors. Funeral and graveside services can be viewed on Oakcrest Funeral Services Facebook page.
Dean Francis Boyken was born on June 16, 1934 in rural Woden, the son of Henry and Schwantje (Loeschen) Boyken. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka, where he was a life-long member. He attended schools in Woden and Titonka, where he graduated in 1952. Dean was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958, with rank of E-4 Specialist.
After service, he moved back to Woden, where he farmed with his dad and brother. He raised sheep and pigs and grew corn, soybeans, and oats. He enjoyed bowling in Titonka, taking care of his acreage, and visiting his family. Dean lived on his acreage until 2018, when he moved into the Titonka Care Center.
He is survived by his brother, Duane (Shirley) Boyken of Mesa, AZ; brother-in-law, Virgil Heifner of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Neoma Boyken of Titonka; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Boyken; and sister, Louise Heifner.
