Barbara Weaver
Memorial services for Barbara L. Weaver, 79, were held Tuesday, July 30 at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Barb passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Barbara Louise Weaver was born on September 25, 1944, in Buffalo Center to Joe and Cora Abels. She joined brothers David and Donald, and Janice and Beverly soon followed. Barb grew up on the farm, and learned early on how to work hard.
After graduating from Buffalo Center High School in 1962, she was united in marriage to Larry Weaver on January 5, 1963. They had two children, Cindy and Todd. Barb worked various jobs in her lifetime, but her favorite job was working as a secretary at the school. She enjoyed working with the staff and students, and was known for being so sweet and kind. She took great pride in doing her job well and was willing to do whatever needed to be done.
On January 5, 2023, Barb and Larry celebrated their 60th anniversary. Their children and grandchildren hosted a party for them in August, and Barb and Larry thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many friends and family. Those who knew Barb were aware of her kind and gentle spirit. She had a deep unwavering faith, and she wanted to see others accept Christ as their savior. Her family will always remember her as their prayer warrior. Barb endured pain and suffering from her many back surgeries throughout the years, but she always put on a smile. She always said tomorrow will probably be a better day.
Barb is survived by her husband, Larry of Buffalo Center; her children, Cindy (Randy) Meinders of Sioux Falls, SD, and Todd of Fairfield; her grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher (Alexandrea) and Samuel Meinders, Jordan (Mia) Weaver and Autumn (Gabe) Umbarger; and her great grandchildren, Ella & Emery Meinders, and Cora & Judah Meinders. She is also survived by her sisters, Jan (Dave) Kiewiet, Bev (Al) Murra; and sister-in-law, Marlys Abels. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dave and Don; and a sister-in-law, Jane Abels.
