Local hair salons reopen

Hair salons in the North Iowa communities are once again open for business, following a proclamation by Governor Kim Reynolds last week. Salons were allowed to open beginning Friday, May 15 and salons in Buffalo Center, Rake and Thompson were quick to reopen over the past few days.

In Buffalo Center, Special Looks opened right away on Friday, and owner Clarice Mayland said it was an extremely busy day. Shear Designs and Cutting Edge in Thompson both also opened up last Friday. Fringe Salon and Simply U Salon in Buffalo Center waited until Saturday to reopen, while Heidi’s Hair Care in Rake was scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 19.

Salons are making it a priority to reschedule customers who had appointments cancelled during the COVID-19 shutdown. Salons are required to operate by appointment only, and appointments may take longer than usual, due to increased hygiene practices and social distancing measures.
