The 2024 Winnebago County Fair royalty was crowned last Thursday evening, July 18 at the fairgrounds in Thompson. In the middle is this year’s Winnebago County Fair Queen, Alyssa Olson. Joining her are Little Miss Tristyn Branstad, left, and Little Mr. Eli Roth.

Ade and Anne Swenson of Thompson are the Grand Marshals for the 2024 Winnebago County Fair Parade, which will take place Sunday, July 21 at 1:30 p.m. in Thompson.

Fire broke out at the home of the Brown family in Lakota around 10 p.m. on Friday, July 5. The Lakota, Buffalo Center, Swea City, and Ledyard Fire Departments responded to the blaze, along with the Lakota Ambulance. It took teamwork by the kids at the Lakota Summer Reading Program to hold up the large snake brought by RAD Zoo to the Lakota Community Center on June 11. The kids also had a chance to touch some other, smaller reptiles.

There’s a new business located inside B.C. Hardware in Buffalo Center, where Relative Arms opened this April. The new gun shop offers firearms, ammunition, and accessories, as well as gun repairs and customization. Pictured at the display case at Relative Arms is Kelly Sabin, who is one of six co-owners of the family-owned gun shop.
