Curtis and Geraldine Selen

Curtis Warner Selen, 83, of Barnum, MN, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, MN. Geraldine Elaine Selen, 93, of Barnum, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at Evergreen Knoll in Cloquet, MN. Joint services were held on Saturday, June 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet per Geraldine’s wishes. Inurnment was in Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Curtis Warner Selen was born on September 26, 1939 to Chester and Tina (Habhegger) Selen in Cloquet. He attended school in Carlton, MN and later graduated from Barnum High School in 1957. Curtis was united in marriage to Geraldine Beekman on August 17, 1963, in Buffalo Center. Together, they made their home in Barnum and were blessed with two children, Brian and Mialee.

Curtis worked for The Little Store in Carlton, Spies Super Value in Cloquet, and owned a small grocery store called Curt’s Corner Store. He was proud of his yard, loved gardening, and enjoyed singing.

Geraldine Elaine Beekman was born on March 11, 1932 to Dick and Willmenetta (Davids) Beekman in Buffalo Center. She grew up on a farm in Buffalo Center and graduated from Buffalo Center High School. Following graduation, she attended and graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL.

Geraldine was a first grade teacher at South Terrace Elementary School in Carlton for 31 years.

Curtis and Gerladine were devoted members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where Curtis had the role of taking care of the church’s garden, and it was taken care of well. Geraldine played the organ and enjoyed making quilts for The Wee Care Sewers.

After 59 years of marriage, Curtis and Geraldine created a bond that even death could not separate for long.

Curtis and Geraldine will be remembered by their children: Brian of Carlton and Mailee (Jeff) Brudwick of Duluth, MN; grandson, Coty (Haley) Selen; great-granddaughter, Lucy Louise Elaine Selen; Curtis’s siblings: Audrey Grover of Cloquet and Wendy (Todd) Juusola of Barnum.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Willmenetta Beekman. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, her parents, and brother, Arthur Beekman.
