Fifteen students advance to State Speech

     Four groups from North Iowa High School earned top marks at the Large Group District Speech competition held in Lake Mills on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Readers Theatre, Short Film, Ensemble Acting and Group Improv groups all received “I” ratings to advance to the State competition, which will be held this Saturday, Feb. 4 in Dubuque.

     Members of the groups advancing to State include:

     • Readers Theatre: Natalie Dirksen, Naddie Myer, Sidney Walton, Bekah Jensvold, Jessica Westrum, Jordan Ostrander, Sierra Billick, Ella Hughes and Samantha Davis.

     • Short Film: Freddie Eden, Sam Hassebroek, Noah Melz, Natalie Dirksen and Alex Balvance.

     • Ensemble Acting: Freddie Eden, Sam Hassebroek, Noah Melz and Alex Balvance.

     • Group Improv: Joey Goetz, Charles Wycoff and Jeremy Dirksen.

     Two additional Group Improv teams also did well at Districts and received “II” ratings. One team was comprised of Ella Hughes, Samantha Davis and Sierra Billick, and the other team included Ben Hassebroek and Jeron Koppen.

     The speech students are coached by Chelsey Shreeve and Jennifer Lawson.
