Winnebago County Fair begins Thursday

     A busy summer in Winnebago County continues this week, with the opening of the Winnebago County Fair in Thompson. This year’s fair runs Thursday through Sunday, July 20-23. Featured entertainment includes Stubble Trouble on Thursday, Shotgun & Lace on Friday, Circle C Rodeo and Saturday, and a Demo Derby and ATV Mud Bog on Sunday.

     The 4-H and FFA shows get underway on Thursday. Highlights in the evening include the Little Miss competition at the grandstand at 6 p.m., followed by the Queen Coronation at 6:30. Grandstand entertainment includes Perpetual Vaudeville (Peter Bloedel) at 7 p.m. and Stubble Trouble (Spenser Rahm) from 8-11 p.m. Admission for both shows is by freewill donation.

     Livestock shows continue on Friday, and there will be an evening meal hosted by the Lake Mills DC group from 5-7 p.m. Shotgun and Lace performs at 8 p.m.

     Activities on Saturday include face painting and balloon fun from 3-7 p.m. and a sanctioned pedal pull at 5 p.m. The Thompson Fire Dept. will host a burgers and sweet corn meal at 5 p.m. There will be entertainment on the open stage from 5-7 p.m. by Acoustic Rapport. Circle C Rodeo will be in the grandstand at 7 p.m.

     Sunday’s highlights include the fair parade in Thompson at 1:30 p.m., free watermelon from FTSB and free burgers from Winnebago County Farm Bureau at 2:30 p.m., the parade of champions and ribbon auction at 3:30 p.m., and the Demo Derby and ATV Mud Bog in the grandstand at 4:30 p.m.

     Admission for Shotgun and Lace, Circle C Rodeo, and the Demo Derby and ATV Mud Bog will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.
