Warriors top Bison 64-6 at Rockford

The North Iowa football team didn’t make it onto the scoreboard until the fourth quarter last Friday night, as they lost a road game at Rockford, 64-6.

The Rockford Warriors scored three touchdowns and 20 points in the first quarter as they set the pace for the match, and they extended their lead to 50-0 by halftime. The Warriors scored twice more in the third quarter, before the Bison got on the board in the fourth with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Meinders to Eber Lopez.

“We knew Rockford was big up front and ran a lot of different formations, so we had to be very disciplined in our assignments, and we did not do that very well,” said Bison Head Coach Brad Bengtson. “We continued to get good rushing effort from Eber Lopez, Tyler Murray and Hunter Meinders this week, but when we get inside the 20 yard line, we have to score points, and we were there three times but only ended up with one touchdown. We need to do a better job offensively of picking up the blitz. Once we do that, we will be able to throw the ball more effectively, which will loosen things up for us to run the ball better.

“Defensively, we need to tackle and play assignment football better as we get ready to host Riceville this next Friday for our final home game of the season,” said Bengtson.
