Vander Wilt retires after nearly 40 years at FTSB

Farmers Trust & Savings Bank will honor its longtime President Brian Vander Wilt this Thursday, April 25, with an open house. Vander Wilt is retiring from his day-to-day duties after a 39-year career at FTSB, including the past 22 years as President and CEO. The open house will be held at the Heritage Town Center Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Vander Wilt’s last day as President will be April 30, but he will continue to serve on the FTSB Board of Directors and as CEO of the bank.

Vander Wilt got his start in banking in 1975 at the National Bank of Waterloo, where he served as auditor. In 1979, he and his wife, Amy, decided to come to Buffalo Center to raise their family. “We had our second child, and we wanted to move to a small town,” said Vander Wilt.

He took a position in consumer lending and operations at Farmers Trust & Savings Bank, and he later became the bank’s financial officer. Bill Ley was president of the bank when Vander Wilt arrived, and Carlyle Gerzema held that position next before Vander Wilt was promoted to the job. As President, Vander Wilt has overseen all the bank branches while continuing to serve as financial officer.
