Thompson teen dies in rollover accident

A Thompson teenager lost her life in a rollover accident last Saturday night in Minnesota.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office reports that a call came in at 9:23 a.m. on Sunday about a single vehicle rollover accident on 560th Ave. near 20th St. by Kiester, MN. Crews from the Kiester Fire and Ambulance Departments, as well as the Wells Police Department, responded to the scene and found Sydney Larson, 16, deceased outside of her vehicle.

Faribault County Sheriff Michael Gormley said they believe the accident occurred around 7 p.m. last Saturday night, and Larson was ejected from the vehicle. He said they believe Larson died immediately as a result of the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted at the accident scene.

Larson was a junior at North Iowa High School in Buffalo Center, where she was involved in numerous activities.

“It’s obviously a very difficult situation for everyone involved, especially the family,” said North Iowa Supt. Cory Myer. The school brought in a crisis team from Area Education Agency 267 to talk to students on Monday, along with members of the North Iowa Ministerial Association.

“We’re just trying to do whatever we can to be as supportive as we can for our students,” said Myer. He said pink ribbons were given out to students Monday as a way to keep Sydney close to their hearts.

Funeral services are being planned for Friday, Feb. 27 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson at 10:30 a.m., with visitation this Thursday at the church from 5-8 p.m.
