Supervisors approve Dollar General annexation

The new Dollar General store under construction just west of Buffalo Center is one step closer to becoming a part of the town.

The site of the store currently sits outside city limits in Buffalo Township, but the Winnebago County Supervisors passed a preliminary resolution last Tuesday approving the annexation of the property into the city.

The City is in favor of annexation, as bringing the store into town will provide a boost to Buffalo Center’s tax base. The supervisors, along with Buffalo Township Trustee Harley Hassebroek, all supported the plan.

City Clerk Deb Jensvold said it will still take some time to complete the annexation process, and the next step is to get approval from the utility companies. She said it may take a couple of months to finalize the annexation.

In the meantime, construction on the building has been moving along, and Mayor Troy Armstrong said the store is about 75% complete. Dollar General plans to open the store this June. This will be the third Dollar General store located in Winnebago County, with other stores already operating in Forest City and Lake Mills.
