Storm causes long-lasting power outages

Residents in Thompson finally have electricity again, after sleet and strong winds brought down power lines throughout the area last Thursday morning. Alliant Energy and Heartland Power Cooperative reported thousands of customers lost power on Thursday, including about 2,000 in Winnebago County alone.

Crews spent long hours replacing dozens of snapped utility poles, which also resulted in some road closures within the county.
