Softball team takes first win over Lake Mills

The North Iowa softball team prevailed in the first home game of the season on Friday, May 24, as the Lady Bison defeated the Lake Mills Bulldogs, 14-4.

North Iowa recorded 11 hits, as the team was led by Jenna Govern, Leah Kramersmeier and Hannah Main with two hits apiece. Hannah Boekelman contributed a triple, and she and Kramersmeier led in RBIs with three each. The lone Lady Bison not to get a hit, Kenzy Jensvold, instead drew three walks. Brenna Paulson pitched for all five innings, as she struck out two batters while giving up five hits and four earned runs.

“Brenna pitched well, and our offense and defense picked it up after a shaky first half inning,” said Head Coach Chad Hinders. “Lake Mills started off fast by reaching base on a couple infield hits. In their first at bat, they scored three runs. We then settled down, and our bats picked up. We scored five runs in our first two at bats and broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Three more runs in the bottom of the fifth ended the game early, 14-4.”
