Softball team faces week of tough opponents

The North Iowa Lady Bison played against some of the top softball teams in the Top of Iowa Conference last week, beginning with Bishop Garrigan on Tuesday, June 18. The game was moved from Algona to Buffalo Center, as Garrigan’s field was too wet from rain that also postponed a planned game with North Union on Monday. A home field advantage wasn’t much help for the Lady Bison, however, as they lost to the Golden Bears, 0-13.

“Offensively we were held in check,” said North Iowa Head Coach Chad Hinders. “Their pitcher did not allow more than one runner to reach base in an inning, and no one was able to advance past second base. Defensively we held them scoreless for two innings, then they started to time Brenna and they were able to score multiple runs in three of the last four innings to take the victory, 13-0.”

Roe Brackey and Brenna Paulson each had two hits on the night for North Iowa. As pitcher, Paulson struck out five batters while giving up nine hits, nine earned runs and 10 walks.
