Shirley Herrmann

Shirley Joan Krahling Herrmann, age 83, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Countryview Manor in Sibley. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley with Pastor Tim Nappe officiating. Interment was in Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Shirley was born on December 6, 1936 in Harris, the daughter of Gilbert and Amelia (Schmidt) Rehborg. She grew up on a farm near Harris and graduated from Harris High School in 1955. On October 22, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Paul Krahling at Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. To this union, two children were born: Julie and Jeff. They raised their family on a farm west of Ashton on the Krahling family farm. After 53 years together, Paul passed away in January of 2009.

Shirley was united in marriage to Walt Herrmann on August 4, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley. Together they lived in Sibley until Walt passed away in January of 2018.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley, where she taught Sunday School and was a part of the women’s work group. She was a member of the Team Trinity Relay for Life Team. She enjoyed gardening, red roses, shopping for clothes and shoes, fishing, card club, and dancing to the Memory Brothers at the Cedar Cabin in Ashton. She was a great cook and pie baker, always making more than enough. She really enjoyed spending the winter months at the RV park in Palm Springs, CA. She loved hugs from everyone, but especially from her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jeff (Brenda) Krahling of Sibley; son-in-law, Dean (Becky) Beenken of Buffalo Centera; grandchildren: Darren (Holly) Beenken, Jared (Amy) Beenken, Becky (Mark) Sloan, Jessica (Josh) Dagel, Andrea (Javi Pacheco) Fowkes, and Joshua (Michaela) Krahling; great-grandchildren: Jagg Beenken; Kaylee Newkirk, Kensley Beenken, Makenna, Caleb, Aubrey and Josiah Sloan, Dawson, Ashlynn, Pierson, Zion, Emilynn, Gabrion, Truston, Brynn Adine, Larkynn, and Oaklon Dagel, Keaton, Elliot, and Emarie Fowkes, and Julie Pacheco; sisters: Donna Kruse of Estherville, and Marilyn Bycroft of Fort Collins, CO; sisters-in-law: Barb (Dave) Else of Cedar Falls, and Barb Rehborg of Greeley, CO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Beenken; husband, Paul Krahling; Walt Hermann; brother, Duane Rehborg; sister, Beverly Rowe; brothers-in-law: Jim Wingate, Jack Kruse, Cliff Rowe, and Ron Bycroft.
