Sewer project underway in Lakota

Work has begun on the new wastewater system in Lakota, following years of planning. The new sewer system will replace the septic tanks used by Lakota residents, in order to comply with requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The first phase of the project got underway on September 8, and the second phase of construction is set to begin this week. Phase one includes installation of the city sewer lines and the residential sewer lines, 163 grinder lift stations, 11 air release structures and 22 flushing stations. Phase two includes construction of a three-cell controlled discharge lagoon on the west side of town.
