School board sets lower tax rate following rejected ballot measure

Property taxes in the North Iowa School District will drop 90 cents for the coming fiscal year, after the North Iowa School Board approved its 2017-2018 budget during a public hearing last Monday.

The tax rate for the year is $10.99 per $1,000 in taxable valuation, and the school board had originally sought a rate of $10.77 for the coming year. That would have included tax income from a $1.00 Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL), which voters rejected during a special election on April 4.
