School adjusts calendar due to snow days

School will start earlier beginning this week at North Iowa Community School, after the Board of Education voted last week to amend the 2018-19 school calendar to make up for lost instructional time due to the winter weather.

Effective March 11, and continuing through the end of the school year, the district will move up the start time of the school day to 8:10 a.m. and will set a 25-minute lunch period for all students. There are no changes to the bus schedule.

The district will also eliminate early dismissal on certain Wednesdays. One additional calendar change is that the end of the third quarter will now be March 22.

“We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we have dealt with the many schedule-related changes due to the extreme weather. Due to the number of days that we have missed, we developed a plan to make up some of the time with a focus on creating the best student learning environment possible,” said Superintendent Joe Erickson.
