Quasquicentennial a success with great turnout

Buffalo Center couldn’t have asked for better weather July 1-2, during the community’s Quasquicentennial celebration. It proved to be a perfect weekend for Buffalo Center residents past and present to come out and enjoy a full weekend of festivities.

The 125 year celebration was made possible thanks to a 13-member committee that spent about five years planning for the big event. All that hard work paid off, as Committee Chairperson Betty Davids says things went smoothly throughout the weekend.

“Thanks to the whole committee and everyone who pitched it to get it all done, because it was a lot of work,” said Davids. Other committee members include: David Alphs, Pam Angstman, Troy Armstrong, Wayne Bronleewe, Ray Bosma, Alan Carson, Dean Gerzema, Lyle Hippen, Dawn Meinders, Kim Ostermann, Alicea Porter and Joann Steffensen.

The Quasquicentennial coincided with the regular 4th of July events held in Buffalo Center each year, such as the kids’ carnival and Junior Olympics, and those were hosted once again by North Iowa Betterment.

Davids says she heard a lot of positive reactions over the weekend, especially regarding the parade and the outdoor church service at First Reformed. The parade on Saturday featured more than 100 entries and lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, while the outdoor service on Sunday drew about 350 guests. The all-school reunion at the Heritage Town Center was also a success, with more than 500 people signed up to eat.
