Parade and fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July

Buffalo Center will continue its long tradition of celebrating the 4th of July this Saturday, with a much shorter lineup of activities than usual. While all the day’s activities at Lions Park have been cancelled, North Iowa Betterment will host a parade through town at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the Buffalo Center Fire Department will put on a fireworks show at dusk at Bison Field.

The route for this year’s 4th of July parade has been extended to give people more space to spread out and watch. Participants should line up at Bison Field as usual, and anyone distributing candy or other items during the parade is asked to wear gloves.

The parade will travel south on N. Mill Road past the nursing home before turning east on 2nd Ave. The parade will then turn north on Main Street, proceeding to 6th Ave., where it will turn east before turning south on 2nd St. The parade will make one last turn to the east on 2nd Ave., ending at 4th St. NE. A map of the parade route can be found on page 8 of the July 1 edition of the Buffalo Center Tribune.

The fireworks show at Bison Field will begin with a short program at about 9:40 p.m. Fire Chief Brian Blodgett says people are welcome to sit in the practice field located between the baseball and softball fields, or they can sit in their cars. Blodgett asks people to continue to practice social distancing, and everyone should stay behind the baseball fence for their safety.
