NIACC to hold bond referendum

For the first time in its history, North Iowa Area Community College will hold a bond referendum this winter, as the school seeks voter support to raise $15 million for infrastructure and other needs. A special election is set for March 3, and the issue requires the support of at least 60% of voters in NIACC’s 11-county region to pass.

NIACC President Dr. Steven Schultz came to Buffalo Center to explain the referendum to the North Iowa School Board at their December meeting. Schultz says the money will go toward workforce development, classroom technology, campus safety, sustainability projects, HVAC, classroom and lab renovations.

NIACC also wants to use some of the money to create career technical centers to provide high school students with more concurrent enrollment opportunities. Schutz says they’re looking to put one of those centers in Forest City.
