New Public Safety Center plan on November ballot

Winnebago County voters will make a number of important decisions on Election Day, November 4, including whether to build a new $4.6 million Public Safety Center in Forest City.

Several members of the Public Safety Center Committee held an informational meeting for local residents last Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Heritage Town Center in Buffalo Center. A small crowd came out to learn about the newly revised proposal and to ask questions. The committee has spent the last several months going over questions and concerns which were raised earlier this year, when an initial bond proposal for a Public Safety Center was turned down by voters.

Buffalo Center Mayor Troy Armstrong, who serves on the committee, went over the basics of the proposed facility. The Public Safety Center will be used by E911 dispatch, Emergency Management, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Dept., civil secretary, correctional officers, parole/probation officers, jail inmates and public inmate visitors. The new facility is designed to use existing staff.
