Mayor stands by decision to fire officer

Buffalo Center Mayor Troy Armstrong says he will not reconsider his decision to terminate Officer Pat Conroy from the Buffalo Center Police Dept. A majority of the Buffalo Center City Council disagreed with that decision during a special meeting held last Tuesday, Mar. 10.

Armstrong made the decision to fire Conroy from his position earlier this month, following a recommendation by Police Chief Matt Holmquist.

Holmquist stated that Conroy has failed to renew his firearms certification in the past two years, which is required annually by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and that Conroy has repeatedly responded to calls outside the city limits when his presence has not been requested, and that creates liability issues for the City. Holmquist said he feels these actions represent misconduct.

Armstrong met with Holmquist, Conroy and Councilman Pete Paulson before making his decision to terminate Conroy.
