Local youth compete at All-Iowa Showdown

Two fair exhibitors from Winnebago County advanced to the All-Iowa Showdown on Sunday, Aug. 5, after winning first place at the North Central Iowa Showdown on Saturday, Aug 4.

Colton Main and Tyler Murray, both of Buffalo Center, qualified for the North Central Iowa Showdown with first place finishes at this year’s Winnebago County Fair. Main won at the district event with his Grand Champion Breeding Doe in the goat show, while Murray won with his Grand Champion Market Hog in the swine show.

Main and Murray each received $500 as the winners of their categories at the North Central Iowa Showdown in Britt, and they won the right to compete in the All-Iowa Showdown the following day in Oskaloosa. Neither of them took any prizes at the All-Iowa show.

Other qualifiers from Winnebago County for this year’s North Central Iowa Showdown included Hunter Meinders in the swine show and Madison Branstad in the beef show. Murray also qualified for the district showdown in the beef show, and Main also qualified in the sheep show.
