LIHEAP program extended to June 30

Funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Program has been provided under the recent Cares Act economic stimulus package passed by Congress. Because of continuing and anticipated demand, the Iowa Department of Human Rights, Division of Community Action Agencies has extended the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to June 30.

Families can apply for the Energy Assistance program at the North Iowa Community Action Organization by calling 641-423-9028. This program can help pay a portion of an eligible household’s utility bill. Eligibility is based on household size and income. Those households who have not already applied, or who are facing disconnection, are encouraged to do so at this time.

Community action agencies have other types of help available, such as food and clothing pantries, and other services. For more information, visit https://nicao-online.org.
