Last stop for longtime bus driver

Doug Aukes drove his bus route for the final time on Friday, May 25, as he retires after serving for 20 years as a bus driver at North Iowa Community School. Aukes has been in charge of the Lakota route, which extends to about three miles north of Titonka, four miles east of Bancroft, and two miles east of Ledyard.

Aukes is also retiring as North Iowa’s bowling coach, which is another position he has held for 20 years. He has helped many bowlers find success on the lanes during that time and has seen numerous athletes make it to state bowling, including senior Jenna Berschman who went this year.

Aukes will still be keeping busy, as he farms 800 acres of land and has 300 head of cattle. He also expects to help out as a substitute bus driver.
