Lakota to build new water plant

The City of Lakota plans to begin construction on a new water treatment plant this year, with a completion date of August 1, 2020. The Lakota City Council will hold a public hearing and bid opening for the project on Monday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Lakota City Hall.

City Councilman Royce Janssen says the current water treatment system was put in during the 1950s, and it’s time for an upgrade due to things wearing out. The City recently put a new pump in one of its two water wells, and the other well will be refurbished as part of this project. Janssen says the new water plant will be located to the west of the existing building by the water tower.

“We’re trying to do a real high-quality building so we don’t have to do a lot of maintenance on it,” said Janssen.
