Lady Bison return to the court for first win

The North Iowa Lady Bison played three games last week as they returned from the holiday break, and they picked up their first win of the season on Friday.

First up for the week was a road game at Lake Mills on Tuesday, Jan. 3, where North Iowa lost 60-33. “We did not do a good enough job keeping them out of the lane, and a result was Lake Mills making 11 three-pointers,” said Lady Bison Head Coach Matt Harriman. “In my mind, they are probably one of the tougher opponents we face, because they have so many shooters and are really athletic. We did some nice things on the offensive end but just couldn’t keep pace with them.”

The Lady Bison captured a long-sought victory last Friday, Jan. 6 in Buffalo Center, as they stomped the Eagle Grove Eagles, 61-22.

“We got off to a fast start and had production from many different players,” said Coach Harriman. “I thought our defense forced Eagle Grove into some tough shots, and we were able to create many turnovers that we converted for points.”

The Lady Bison had hosting duties again as they wrapped up their busy week on Saturday, Jan. 7, against Newman Catholic. After recovering from a slow start, the Lady Bison pushed the game into overtime, where they lost to the Knights, 51-45.

“I think we did a nice job defensively in the first half and closed the first half on a nice run to keep up in the game,” said Coach Harriman. “I thought the girls showed a lot of grit in the second half; getting back to even and forcing the game into overtime after being down by 14.”
