Lady Bison end season in third round of Regionals

The North Iowa Lady Bison made it to the third round of the Regional softball tournament last week, before their season came to a close with a loss last Friday in the semifinals.

The week opened in Buffalo Center on Monday, July 6, as the Lady Bison hosted Riceville in the opening round of the tournament. North Iowa got off to a slow start, as Riceville took the early lead, 2-0. North Iowa answered with a run in the bottom of the second and then blew things wide open in the third with eight runs on five hits.

“We were fortunate to get the timing of their starting pitcher and bat around in the third to score eight runs,” said Lady Bison Head Coach Chad Hinders. “From there, we were able to manage the game defensively, but offensively, we were not able to generate any more threats in the game.”

Taylen Hinders recorded two hits and three RBIs for the evening. Ashley Huntington had two hits and two RBIs, and Cassidy Sachs drove in two runs with her single in the third inning. Kayla Stelter earned the victory, allowing seven hits and six walks with five strikeouts.
