Group looks to raise money for pool, park improvements

A group of Buffalo Center residents is looking to raise money for a zero-depth entry baby pool, along with other improvements at the Buffalo Center pool and Lions Park.

Deb Wirth, representing an informal group of “Friends of the Park”, addressed the Buffalo Center City Council at its June 10 meeting about raising money to add a zero-depth entry slope to the existing baby pool to make it ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. The project is estimated to cost $50,000. The group plans to start fundraising during events this summer, and Wirth said she would like to start writing grants for the pool and other things.

Other projects Wirth said they’d like to help with include improving the playground equipment near the pool, painting the picnic tables outside the pool, and maybe planting some flowers. She said they would check with pool staff and North Iowa Betterment to see what needs to be done and make sure they don’t overlap on projects.

See story in this week's Tribune for the other items the Council discussed this month.
