Evans departs for fulltime ministry position

Luke Evans will preach his final sermons at the United Methodist Churches in Buffalo Center and Thompson on Sunday, as he is heading to eastern Iowa to take on a full-time position in the ministry.

Evans has served as pastor for the local United Methodist Churches on a part-time basis since last August. He is in the process of moving to Brandon, where he has been appointed to serve four United Methodist Churches located in Brandon, Vinton, Mt. Auburn, and Garrison.

“There had been talk of me getting a full-time appointment for a while,” said Evans. He says the United Methodist Church usually appoints pastors to new positions in the summer, but this job opened up because the current pastor is retiring. He says two of his new churches are about the size of UMC in Buffalo Center, while the other two are about the same size as UMC in Thompson.

The churches are located within about a 20-mile area, and he’ll preach three services on Sunday mornings and one service on Sunday evenings.
