Education, immigration and courts among forum topics

The Thompson Public Library hosted Iowa Rep. Tedd Gassman on Friday, March 15, during his second round of legislative forums this year in Winnebago County. Gassman met with constituents in the community room at the library, while Iowa Sen. Dennis Guth did not make it to the meeting as planned.

Gassman opened things up by talking about recently passed bills, including the extension of SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education), which provides sales tax money to schools. Gassman says with a change this year to online sales tax collection, there will be more money available to schools. He also highlighted that the legislature voted to give more funding to nursing homes and hospitals.

Gassman said he supports a constitutional amendment to put the language of the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution into the Iowa Constitution. He says he thinks everyone should have the right to keep and bear arms.
