Double wins in double header for Lady Bison

The Lady Bison opened last week with a double header against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Monday, where they mounted a huge comeback in the first game to win, 13-11.

“GHV jumped out to an 11 run lead with the winning run on third,” explained Coach Hinders. “We were able to strand her then come back in the top of the fifth and score five runs of our own. After the third inning, the pitching and defense settled down and did not give up another run for the remainder of the contest. Offensively, we continued to chip away at the lead, and a four-run seventh inning proved to be the difference, as we fought back and took game one.”

Melz, Bengtson, Cassidy Sachs and Jenna Govern each had two hits. Sachs hit her second home run of the season, while Melz got two bases out of each of her hits.

The Lady Bison made another nice recovery in game two, as they put away Garner for the night, 14-9.

“Once again, we fell behind in the contest only to fight back and regain the lead and the victory,” said Hinders. “Tonight showed our resiliency. It was nice to see the girls continue to fight and find ways to get back into both of these games. It was also nice to see a lot of people in the lineup get key hits to keep innings going.”

Leading the offense with two hits each were Rachel Schutter, Rachel Hassebroek and Brenna Paulson. Paulson hit her first home run of the season and totaled five RBIs.
