Council votes to remove city dumpsters

The City of Buffalo Center plans to remove the public garbage dumpsters located by the city maintenance building on Highway 9. The City Council made the decision at its monthly meeting last Wednesday, due to abuse of the dumpsters and in hopes of reducing costs.

The council discussed the issue with city employees Bruce Bengtson and Paul Jutting, who said people leave prohibited items in the dumpsters such as televisions, tires and oil, as well as large amounts of waste from construction projects. There have also been problems with people leaving garbage near the dumpsters when they are full. Bengtson said they empty the dumpsters three times per week.
