Council talks pool fixes and splash pad

The Buffalo Center Swimming Pool needs a new heater, and it’s going to cost about twice as much as expected. Mayor John Davids said at last week’s City Council meeting that it will cost an estimated $15,000 to $16,000 to replace the heater at the pool, which has not been working this season.

Pool Manager Sarah Paulson says the current heater is probably 30 years old, and it hasn’t run well for years. She says the pool is losing business because it doesn’t have a working heater, and it’s also going to have an impact on swimming lessons. The pool announced last week that it would postpone swimming lessons this year to June 24 through July 5.

Paulson hopes it may be possible to fix the current heater enough to get it going while the City works on getting a replacement. Other work is also needed at the pool, and Mayor Davids said he spoke to Sawatzky Pools from Mankato, MN, and they plan to come this week to take a look at the baby pool to provide an estimate on resurfacing that pool.
