Company explains interest in new wind farm
A new wind farm may be on the horizon for Buffalo Center, as a California-based company has been meeting with local landowners about the possibility of installing up to 100 wind turbines north of town.
EDF Renewable Energy, with headquarters in San Diego, CA has dubbed the potential project the Golden Plains Wind Project, which would include 200 megawatts of power generation in Winnebago and Kossuth Counties. Representatives of the company have been meeting privately with landowners over the last few months, and EDF invited landowners to a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Heritage Town Center to share more information.
Chris Sternhagen, EDF development manager for the Central Region, led a presentation and answered questions from landowners. Sternhagen said one of the first questions EDF asks when looking at a new project is “Do property owners want to take part?” He says they’re working to see if the Golden Plains Wind Project would be a good fit for both EDF and the local community.
