City finds candidate for police position

The City of Buffalo Center has a new candidate interested in being the City’s police officer, as Mayor John Davids says Logan Swearingen has applied for the job. Davids updated the City Council about the police situation at their Nov. 13 meeting and said Swearingen is working on completing testing so he can attend the law enforcement academy.

The City is currently contracting with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement coverage for the town until a new officer is in place.

Councilman Nich Holland said he was disturbed to hear at last month’s Council meeting that the sheriff’s office would want the City to continue paying for part-time coverage even if the City gets a new police officer hired. The Council discussed checking with the Winnebago County Auditor to find out how many of Buffalo Center’s tax dollars already go toward county law enforcement coverage.
