Carl Haayer

Carl H. Haayer, 88, of LeRoy, Minnesota passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Ostrander Care Center in Ostrander, Minnesota. Graveside services for Carl were held on Saturday, May 17 at the Chester Hill Cemetery in Chester at 11 a.m. Following the services, friends and family gathered at the Chester Community Center in Chester for a time of food and fellowship.

Carl H. Haayer was born May 22, 1936 to Herman and Margaret (Johnson) Haayer in Winnebago County, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Carolyn Blome in February of 1961 in Lakota.

Carl farmed in York Township, Fillmore County until his retirement. He also worked at the Chester Post Office for 16 years.

He enjoyed pool, chess, playing cards and coffee time with family and friends as well as chocolate shakes. Carl was a very caring and giving person, he never met a stranger. He always waved at everyone he passed on the country roads and would start a conversation immediately with anyone. He was also known for his quirky sense of humor and was able to get a laugh out of just about everyone. To know him was to know his love of singing “good morning to me” to everyone up and awake … sometimes at the wrong time!

Carl was a member of the neighborhood card club, chess club and served as a trustee at the Chester United Methodist Church.

Carl is survived by his daughters: Carmen (Kevin) Larsen of Elma; Cheryl Waker of Mayesville, South Carolina; grandchildren: Bryan Waker and Kaylee Waker and great-grandchildren: Kayana Barrineau, M.J. Davenport and Xavier Davenport; one brother: Marion (Barbara) Haayer of Mankato, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; and brothers: Harry Lee, Herman Jr., Gene, Ronald and Bruce; in-laws: Harry and Vera Blome.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Chester United Methodist Church or Chester Hill Cemetery.
