Buffington wins fair queen crown

     Hannah Buffington of Forest City is the 2018 Winnebago County Fair Queen, as she took the crown during the coronation ceremony held last Thursday, July 18. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Brian and Tora Buffington of Forest City.

     The runner-up this year is 17-year-old Hannah Hanson of Lake Mills. Her parents are Mike and Beth Hanson. Winning the title of Miss Congeniality was Sonja Rygh, the 16-year-old daughter of Bill and Laurie Rygh of Lake Mills.

     The queen coronation went ahead as scheduled despite the rain last Thursday, although the event was moved under the roof at the show barn. Eight candidates took part this year, and others running included Cedara Harris of Forest City, Harlie Lawson of Thompson, Kylie Buns of Buffalo Center, Madison Hassebroek of Buffalo Center, and Makenzie Schmidt of Forest City.

     Buffington will represent Winnebago County at the 2018 Iowa State Fair, which runs August 9-20 in Des Moines.
