Board to review superintendent candidates

The North Iowa School Board will meet next Tuesday to review candidates for the new school superintendent. Applications for the position were due this Monday, and search firm Ray and Associates, Inc. will present the board with information on their top choices for candidates on April 24.

Current superintendent Cory Myer, whose last day at North Iowa is June 30, told the board at last week’s regular meeting that Ray and Associates expects to have about 30 applications. The search firm will make recommendations for which candidates they think will be the best fit for North Iowa, but the board can review any of the applications. Myer said he thinks the board will get some good candidates to choose from, but a lot of them will be new to the superintendent position.

Following next week’s meeting, the board plans to meet with semifinalists for the position on April 30 and May 1. Finalists will be invited to the school on May 7, when the board hopes to make its decision.

Other items of business at last week’s board meeting included approving the budget for the 2018-19 school year. The board set the maximum proposed property tax rate at 11.10766 per $1,000 taxable valuation.
