Bison drop contest with Rockford, 20-58

The North Iowa Bison turned up the heat in the second half last Friday night but couldn’t bounce back from a big deficit, as they fell to Rockford, 20-58, in Buffalo Center.

The Rockford Warriors built a 36-0 lead in the first half, as the Bison suffered through penalties and interceptions. North Iowa bounced back to score three touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 27-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Meinders to Cadin Fleener, followed by a 14-yard touchdown run by Meinders. Kade Hobbs also put points on the board, as he made an interception and ran the ball in for a touchdown. The Warriors scored three touchdowns as well in the second half, as they kept the game out of reach of the Bison.

“We came out flat, but second quarter we picked it up, played very physical and fought hard to get back into the game,” said cohead coach Brad Kemnitz. He says the Bison kept up the pressure going into the second half. “Lots of young guys stepping up.”
