Bengtson earns medal at state meet

North Iowa’s Kenzie Bengtson came away with a medal at the 2017 State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines last week. Bengtson, a junior, and Brenna Paulson, a freshman, both competed in the discus at Drake Stadium last Friday, May 19, where Bengtson took eighth place and Paulson came in 18th. Bengtson’s best throw was 117’8”, while Paulson had a throw of 104’7”.

“Both of this year’s state performers were first time competitors on the state meet stage,” said Lady Bison Head Coach Jonathan Potter. “The weather conditions influenced the event slightly for all throwers - cool with damp conditions does not make for ideal throwing conditions - so many performers struggled with consistency. Brenna put one throw in bounds, and it proved to hold up for 18th place. She was ranked 17th coming in, so she performed about where she was seated coming into the meet.
