BC native publishes books of popular knitting patterns

Jen Geigley has become something of a celebrity in the knitting world. A native of Buffalo Center, Jen has created dozens of her own knitting patterns, which have been downloaded thousands of times online and are featured in two self-published books.

Jen, who now lives in Des Moines, says she got started with knitting in 2008. “I had two friends who were knitters, and I begged them to teach me. One night, they showed me how to cast on, knit and purl, and I immediately became obsessed. I read every book I could get my hands on, and I haven’t stopped knitting since,” said Jen.

She says she loves to knit accessories using bulky yarn. “I love the way the stitches look, and bigger yarn makes for fast knitting,” said Jen. “Sometimes I will knit a few tiny newborn hats and donate them to Blank Children’s Hospital here in Des Moines. I also love knitting sweaters for my family and myself.”
