‘Newsies’ this Friday and Saturday at North Iowa

The North Iowa music department will present “Newsies” this Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, for its annual spring musical production. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each night, and tickets are available for $8 at the North Iowa Elementary Office.

“Newsies” is based on the real- life Newsboys Strike of 1899. It tells the story of Jack Kelly, who leads the ragtag gang of Newsies in a strike when Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense. With help from the beautiful reporter Katherine Plummer, the Newsies show the world that even kids have a voice.

Friday’s performance will be followed by an ice cream social hosted by the National Honor Society. On Saturday, the After Prom Committee will host a pork loin meal in the school commons from 5-7 p.m. Both groups will be accepting freewill donations.
